In Search of the Essence of Religious Experience

Abstract

The article presents Henryk Machoń’s conception of religious experience. Machoń’s conception is rooted in discussion with classic figures in the field of religious studies, such as William James, Carl Gustav Jung, Rudolf Otto and Friedrich Schleiermacher. Machoń also devoted his work to spiritual exercises established by Ignatius Loyola, whose practical approach to religious experience has an advantage over contemporary attempts to sacralise secular phenomena, especially football.
