The aim of the article is to introduce the issues of the symposium. The consequences of the so-called animal turn in the humanities and social sciences are discussed - new theoretical areas, concepts, language, ways of creating knowledge about animals, ways of describing human-animal relations. The article analyzes the situation of animals from the perspective of its anthropocentric mediation (anthropomorphism), and discusses important emancipatory strategies - welfare, animal rights, abolitionism. The issue of animal resistance as an aspect of liberation and the postulate of animal autonomy as a challenge to the anthropocentric cognitive perspective are also considered.
